history
Al Khor was formed when local residents, who mainly worked in the oil and gas sector, realised the importance of having a club to satisfy their sports and social needs.
Two local sports clubs came together to form Al Taawon Sports Club in 1961. In 2002, the Qatar Olympic Committee changed the name to Al Khor Sports Club to represent the city of Al Khor.
Nicknamed The Knights, Al Khor won the Heir Apparent Cup in 2005. They perform consistently well in all competitions and tournaments.

Tunisian coach Mehdi Nafti took over the technical task of Al Khor during the 2024-2025 season, succeeding Abdullah Mubarak.
Mehdi has had a number of previous coaching experiences, most notably with Leganes, Levante, Marbella and Alcorcon clubs in Spain in addition to Morocco’s Wydad Athletic. He also worked as an assistant to Tunisian national team coach Faouzi Benzarti.
As a player, Nafti moved between clubs Toulouse in France, Birmingham in England, Aris in Greece, and Racing Santander, Valladolid, Real Murcia and Cadiz in Spain.
It may be noted that Nafti was a winner with Tunisia at the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations and also played in the 2026 World Cup in Germany.
