Al Khor will host Al Wakrah in Week 17 of the 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League at the Al Khor Stadium on Thursday, February 27, 2025. The kick-off is at 4.45pm.
The match is an opportunity for both teams to correct the course, having lost opportunities to score many points in the past rounds.
In the previous round, Al Khor lost to Al Shamal 0-2, while Al Wakrah went down to Al Rayyan 0-4.
Al Khor are in the last place in the standings with only seven points from one win, 11 losses and four draws, and are keen to stop the consecutive defeats after losing in the last five rounds.
Al Khor are looking to improve their position in the standings and escape relegation. They are seven points away from their closest competitors Umm Salal (in 11th place).
On the other hand, Al Wakrah occupy 10th place in the standings with a tally of 17 points from five wins, two draws and nine defeats, the last of which was against Al Rayyan, and a few days after losing against Al Taawoun of Saudi Arabia in the second-leg, Round of 16 of AFC Champions League Two.
Al Khor’s Tunisian coach Mehdi Nafti realizes that the Al Wakrah match is a new opportunity and is expected to push his striking force represented by Algerian Sofiane Hanni and striker Ricardo Gomes, who came from Al Wakrah during the transfer period on loan until the end of the season.
For Al Wakrah, their coach Poya Asbaghi would be counting on his players Ayoub Assal, Hamdi Fathy, Aissa Laidouni and Ayman Hussein to achieve a victory. The team, however, will miss the services of Suhaib Gannan as he was sent off during the match against Al Rayyan.
