It was founded in 1980 and is among the clubs which have progressed steadily to the First Division (QNB Stars League), where they qualified to play this season after they deservedly won the Second Division in the 2020-2021 season.
It may be noted that Al Shamal first played in the First Division in the 2014-2015 season. It is a big challenge for them as they look forward to providing their best and avoid relegation.

Nuno Miguel Palmeiro de Almeida Portuguese coach, born in Lisbon on March 15, 1972 (52 years old).
Holds a UEFA Pro coaching license.
He began his career as a player with the U-17 club Setubal in Portugal and progressed through the youth categories. Then he moved on to play for several local Portuguese clubs, most notably Madeira Nacional FC, and in 2004 became a professional with American club Syracuse. He also had another professional experience in 2005 with Bulgarian club OFC Vihren, before he retired from playing in 2006 and headed to coaching.
Almeida began his coaching career in 2011 as an assistant coach for Greek club Panathinaikos, then Sporting Lisbon of Portugal in 2013 and Sporting Braga in 2014, before moving to work as an assistant to the famous Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira with Egyptian club Zamalek in 2015, and Al Sadd of Qatar in 2019.
His first experience as a technical director was with Egyptian club Pharco FC from March to December 2022, and he led the team in 28 matches in all tournaments.
Under Almeida's command, Pharco won five times, drew 17 times, and was defeated in six matches. Pharco scored 12 goals under Almeida and conceded 14. Nuno Almeida will lead the Qatari club Al Shamal in the new season (2024-2025).
