Local rivalry set to resume between Arabi and Ahli

Highflying Al Arabi will face a tough test of their early season form when they take on local rivals Al Ahli in what promises to be a feisty derby encounter on Friday evening.

The Dream Team has been slowly building up a head of steam under new coach Gerardo Pelusso, and will face a test of their top four credentials against an Al Ahli side who are no pushovers. Arabi have been handed a major boost after confirming that professional players Paulinho and Luis Jimenez are available for selection.

One player who will be crucial to Al Arabi’s efforts will be Captain Boualem Khoukhi. The Qatar international was exceptional in his sides 2-1 victory over Al Kharitiyat, scoring a goal and having a composed match in the center of defense. Khoukhi has played in plenty of Ahli derbies over the years and his experience will be crucial for this Al Arabi side.

As for the visitors, Al Ahli has also enjoyed a solid start to the QSL season under the stewardship of new coach Luka Bonačić. The Croatian coach has revitalized the attacking options at the Brigadiers this season, with Al Ahli scoring an impressive tally of six goals in three QSL matches.

 In team news, Ahli will be without influential midfielder Mojtaba Jabbari through injury but could give debuts to signings Ahmed Al Saadi and Abdulaziz Al Sulaliti. D.R Congo international Firmin Mubele will be hoping to continue his inspired form in front of goal for his side. His acrobatic over-head kick equalizer saved Ahli blushes against Al Wakrah last time out, and his pace will be crucial if Ahli are to get anything from the match.
