Defensive stability key for the Thunders this season
QSL side Al Kharaitiyat has enjoyed a relatively stable start to the 2016/2017 QSL season, picking up three points after one defeat and a draw in the opening game. An opening day defeat to Al Sadd was quickly followed up with a narrow victory over fellow relegation candidates Al Wakrah which was hailed as a vital win by head coach Amir Osim.
The opening game was perhaps one to forget for the Thunders, after being soundly beaten 4-0 by a rampant Al Sadd side. Head coach Amir Osim will be proud of the fighting qualities exhibited by his squad to recover from the heavy defeat to beat Al Wakrah 2-1, in a tense tie.
Summer signing Jeremy Bokila is one of several new faces in the Kharaitiyat squad this term and already shown promise in the two opening matches. The D.R Congo man has been the Thunders main attacking threat thus far, and his hard work up top has paid off. Bokila struck the winner in the second half against Al Wakrah to give his side three vital points to kick start their season.
Likewise Khaled Radhwan could be set for a big season at the heart of the Kharaitiyat defense. The 26-year old was recruited in the summer from Lekhiwya and will be looked upon to marshal the Thunders backline, which has been guilty of conceding plenty of goals in previous seasons. If Radhwan is able to force his way into Amir Osim’s thinking, and get a run in the side he could very well help his side beat the drop this season.
Al Kharaitiyat captain Ahmed Soufiane is only in his second season with the club, but the keepers experience will be vital if the Thunders are to survive in the QSL. Soufiane had a starring role towards the end of the Al Wakrah match, pulling off a host of solid saves to ensure the points for his team. Soufiane will have to step up in his captaincy role this season, to propel Kharaitiyat up the league table.
Al Kharaitiyat will be looking to continue their winning streak once the QSL resumes after the international break .The Thunders will take on an inform Al Arabi side on Saturday the 15th of October at Al Khor stadium.
