Al Sadd 2-2 Al Wakrah
Al Wakrah came back twice to level the game at two-apiece in a tough match that at one point the Wolves looked to have under control.
Al Wakrah travelled north to Doha to face last season’s champions Al Sadd at the Jassim Bin Hamad stadium for the round 16 clash of the Qatar Stars League.
The game kicked off and a classy placed header by Khalfan Ibrahim Khalfan on the 20 minute mark saw the wolves go in front for the first time in the game. The goal came from a dead ball situation on the edge of the box.
But it didn’t take long for the visitors to restore parity with a great goal of their own. On 32 minutes Hamood Al Yazidi gave his side a vital lifeline.
And that was it for the first half as both sides walked to the tunnel.
In the second half Al Wakrah took their foot off the gas and on the 65th minute they were punished by Ali Asadallah Qambar who scored a majestic goal worthy of the fans applause. Left back Abdelkerem Hassan had his effort blocked inside the area but the ball fell fortuitously to teammate Ali who control and with the slightest of back lifts quickly curled the ball into the top right hand corner to make it 2-1.
But Al Wakrah had clearly benefitted from the midseason break and was showing more resolve.
Late on, Al Sadd carelessly lost the ball in the middle of the park; Ahmed Fadel intercepted the ball and quickly went on a counterattack. Mouchine Moutouali was further up the field and received the ball with two defenders to beat. The Moroccan made it look easy as he curled the ball through the gap between the two defenders, past the stranded keeper and into the top right corner of the net.
The result was fair as both sides had plenty of good phases throughout the match, and Wakrah’s Sebastian Saez could have caused an upset late on but it was to be as both sides settled for a single point.
