Al Shahania and Al Sadd will face off in Week 18 of the 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium of Qatar Sports Club on Friday, March 7, 2025. The kick-off is at 9.30pm.
The match is anticipated to be highly competitive as both teams strive for victory and three points. It pits reigning champions Al Sadd against Al Shahania, who got promoted from Second Division this season.
Al Shahania are looking to bounce back from a recent 1-2 defeat to league leaders Al Duhail and aim to enhance their performance and secure a win.
Meanwhile, Al Sadd are eager to maintain their winning streak following victories over Al Arabi, Umm Salal, Al Duhail and Al Gharafa in previous matches. They also recently drew 1-1 with Al Wasl of the UAE in the first leg of AFC Champions League Elite Round of 16, with the second leg scheduled for next Monday at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium of Al Sadd club.
Al Shahania occupy the seventh position with 23 points, trailing Al Shamal in sixth place on goal difference. Al Sadd hold the second position with 37 points, just one point behind Al Duhail.
Al Sadd had beaten Al Shahania 4-2 in the first leg.
In addition to the players, the match will also showcase a tactical battle between the two coaches: Felix Sanchez of Al Sadd, who aims to solidify his team's dominance and close the gap at the top, and his fellow countryman, Jose Murcia of Al Shahania, who is determined to steer his team back to winning ways.
Al Shahania will rely mainly on Dutch striker Pelle van Amersfoort, who has scored 10 goals in the competition so far, Lotfi Madjer, Alhassan Koroma and goalkeeper Shehab Ellethy, while the team will be without player Francesco Antonucci after being sent off in the last match against Al Duhail.
Al Sadd have many stars, most notably Akram Afif, Rafa Mujica and Boualem Khoukhi. They will be without Moroccan defender Romain Saiss after undergoing ankle surgery that will keep him out of the team for three months.
