Al Gharafa coach Pedro Martins spoke to the media ahead of their 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League Week 17 match against Umm Salal.

“If you want to play at a high level, you must get used to playing consecutive matches at times and this is normal. I prefer that because it means we are present in multiple competitions, so I do not complain about this matter because we are in the Amir Cup and we are fighting in the league for a top-four spot. The players are able to play matches like this and this is football. The players train a lot.

“The Umm Salal team is confident and they have developed a lot under the new coach. They are a good team that includes distinguished foreign professionals, therefore it will be a difficult match.

“The top-four position is our goal, but we have not yet provided everything necessary to qualify because we have a good team compared to the rest of the teams and this is a fact. Our level requires us to make the difference. Of course, we have some shortcomings in defence with some young players. But if we do not reach the top four, it will be our responsibility alone,” said Martins.

Al Gharafa player Amro Seraj said, “The preparations for the match are normal like any match and our goal is the three points in order to return to the top four.

“Umm Salal are a distinguished team coming from a victory, but this will not affect our focus and we will be more serious and enthusiastic.

“I hope the fans will support us in the stadium and, God-willing, we will live up to their expectations and achieve victory.”
