The 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League’s Week 12 too witnessed exciting  action between the teams to improve their positions, be it for the top, middle or bottom places.

Al Duhail keep their leadership position, while Qatar SC move up to the third spot in rankings.

Al Rayyan registered a second win and advanced a spot ahead in the standings, while Umm Salal slipped to penultimate position.

THE RESULTS

Al Sadd bt Al Markhiya 1-0

Al Gharafa beat Al Sailiya 2-1

Al Ahli bt Umm Salal 3-1

Al Duhail bt Al Wakrah 1-0

Al Rayyan bt Al Shamal 2-1

Qatar SC bt Al Arabi 3-2

All matches produced exciting results and none ended in a draw. Al Sadd and Al Duhail scored a solitary goal wins while the match between Qatar SC and Al Arabi witnessed the most goals being scored – 5.

The week also witnessed two red cards – Umm Salal player Abdulrahman Raafat and Qatar SC’s Bashar Resan.

Al Duhail maintained their position at top of the standings, while Al Arabi remained in second place. Qatar SC advanced to the third place while Al Wakrah fell to fourth. Al Sailiya are in the last place.

In the first match, Al Sadd succeeded in prevailing over Al Markhiya with a goal from Baghdad Bounedjah and compensated for their loss in the first clash between them. It was Al Sadd’s third consecutive victory after the resumption of the league post break. They raised their tally to 16 points to be in sixth place, while Al Markhiya stayed on nine points and in the ninth place.

The match witnessed a fighting challenge from Al Markhiya, who tried their best to get an equalizing goal for a draw, but Al Sadd held on to seize the valuable three points.

In the second match, Al Gharafa regained victory after a draw and two losses since the league’s resumption inflicting on Al Sailiya their ninth loss of the season.

Al Gharafa succeeded in scoring a late goal for a 2-1 victory after Al Sailiya took the lead first. Al Gharafa showed a strong determination to fightback and claim the three points. They raised their tally to 16 points to be in seventh place on goal difference against Al Sadd (sixth). Meanwhile, the suffering of Al Sailiya continued, who remain with four points.

Al Ahli succeeded in overcoming Umm Salal, who were ahead riding on the goal from Jonathan Kodjia, but Al Ahli were able to bounce back thanks to the brilliance of a number of their players, most notably Sofiane Hanni, who scored two goals and led his team to victory and the three points.

The loss was Umm Salal’s fifth this season and their tally remained on seven points as they fell to the eleventh place following the victory of Al Rayyan, who gained from the stumbling of their rivals to advance to the 10th place.

Al Ahli with their victory moved to 17 points and in fifth place in the rankings table.

Al Duhail have strengthened their lead in the standings after defeating Al Wakrah with a goal from defender Yousef Ayman. This was Al Duhail’s eighth victory of the season.

Al Duhail compensated for their loss to Al Wakrah in the first leg and raised their tally to 26 points.

Al Wakrah’s tally stood at 18 points and they fell to fourth place as Qatar SC scored a win in this round.

Al Rayyan achieved their second victory of this season and regained the winning run defeating Al Shamal 2-1 to advance one spot to be in the 10th place with eight points.

Al Rayyan also compensated for their loss in the first leg to Al Shamal, whose tally remained on 10 points and in eighth place.

The final match of Week 12 between Qatar SC and Al Arabi Club witnessed great excitement and the score was equal until the final minutes.

Qatar SC continued to show excellence achieving their third victory since the resumption of the league. It was their fourth win in a row and sixth of this season.

Qatar SC raised their tally to 19 points to advance to the third place. while Al Arabi remained second with 22 points.

Qatar SC’s goals came through Omar Al Emadi, Nasir Peer and Ben Malango, whereas Al Arabi’s goal was scored by Helal Mohammed and Aron Gunnarsson.

Olonga, Dala joint top scorers

Among the list of top scorers after Week 12, Michael Olunga of Al Duhail and Jacinto Dala of Al Wakrah are joint in the lead with nine goals each.

Al Arabi striker Yousef Msakni is next on the list with seven goals, followed by Al Rayyan striker Yohan Boli and Al Ahli striker Yazan Al Naimat with six goals each.
