Al Wakrah coach Marquez Lopez spoke to the media ahead of their 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League postponed match from Week 10 against Al Rayyan.
“Naturally, we did not have enough time to prepare for this match, given that we played the last match on Wednesday. Therefore, we had only one day to recover and one more day to prepare for this match, while the opposing team got an additional day of rest, considering they played on Tuesday.
“When we lose any match, this reflects negatively on the team and therefore our recent loss in the Amir Cup is not positive, but from another point of view, we now have fewer matches and we need to focus on the league championship so that we can finish the competition in the best position possible and maintain our presence in the top order.
“We have many injuries in the team, starting with Omid Brahimi, who has been injured for a long time, and ending with Trent Sainsbury, who was injured in the last match, in addition to Ibrahim Al Sadiq, Ahmed Fadhel and Amir Al Sayed,” said Marquez.
Al Wakrah player Saud Al Nasr said, “Despite the lack of time and the absence of some players due to injury, the team is able to overcome this obstacle.
“Al Rayyan will remain a great team despite all the adverse circumstances they are going through. They have distinguished players in all departments, so superiority over them requires the highest levels of concentration in addition to implementing the instructions of the technical staff.
“We are all working very hard to put the Al Wakrah team on the right path and we are currently focusing on staying in the top four especially since the team really deserves that for the great efforts made throughout the season and its capable technical staff and distinguished players.”
