Al Arabi defeated Al Gharafa 3-0 in their crucial Week 21 fixture of  2022-2023 season QNB Stars League at the Al Arabi Stadium on Thursday to stay in contention for a shot at the championship title.

The architect of The Dream Team’s vital win was their star striker Omar Al Somah, who struck a hat-trick scoring in the 70th, 78th minute (penalty) and 90th minutes.

The three goals also took Al Somah’s tally of goals in the season to 18 – tying him with Al Duhail’s Michael Olunga for the top scorer of the tournament.

Al Arabi have also equalized with Al Duhail with 15 wins in the championship this season, but have a tally of 46 points against 48 of The Red Knights because The Dream Team have suffered two more losses than Al Duhail. While Al Duhail have 3 draws and 3 losses, Al Arabi have 1 draw and 5 defeats thus far.

In the game against Al Gharafa, Al Somah was fabulous for coach Younes Ali’s Al Arabi, sizzling in the second half.

Syrian striker Al Somah’s first goal was realized in a brilliant finish after some tense play in the danger area. Once Abdullah Al Murisi passed the ball to Al Somah, he shaped up to unleash a powerful left-footer to beat the goalkeeper.

His second goal came after he was brought down by a charging Al Gharafa custodian Yousef Hassan and the referee called for a penalty.

Al Somah’s third and hat-trick goal also beat the frantic goalkeeper all ends up after an Abdullah Al Marafi assist.

The defeat ended Al Gharafa’s hopes of a top-four finish as they slipped to sixth with 32 points and Qatar SC took their tally to 35 points after a 2-0 win over Al Ahli.
