Al Rayyan Club officially announced the appointment of Swedish coach Poya Asbaghi for one season, succeeding Portuguese Leonardo Jardim.
 
In a statement, the club said that Asbaghi has become coach of Al Rayyan starting next season (2024-2025).
 
Asbaghi was the coach of Al Shamal last season, where he managed the team to ninth place in the Qatari league with 25 points.
 
Al Rayyan's contract with the Swedish coach comes after the club announced at the end of last month that it had terminated their contract with Portuguese coach Jardim by mutual consent.
 
Al Rayyan ranked second in the Qatari League club standings last season with 47 points and reached the final match in the Qatar Cup, where they lost 1-0 to Al Wakrah.
 
They were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Amir Cup after losing to Qatar SC on penalties. (4 - 5) following a 4-4 draw in regular time and extra time.
 
Asbaghi previously coached the Swedish clubs Dalcud between 2016 and 2017, Gefli for a few months, and Gottjöberg, which he managed for a total of 78 matches. He also coached the Swedish under-21 national team, and his last experience outside Qatar was with the English club Barnsley.
