Al Rayyan beat Al Sailiya 2-0 in Week 8 of the 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League at the Al Ahli Stadium on Thursday.

With the victory, Al Rayyan moved on to four points.

Osama Al Tairi (48th minute) and Yohan Boli (71st minute) scored the goals.

The much-needed win came as a big boost for The Lions, who earlier had only a draw to their credit having lost six games.

Al Sailiya stood on four points.

Al Sailiya would also consider themselves a bit unlucky for not being able to score when the teams were locked goalless just after the first half. Mehrdad Mohammadi's fine header effort was parried off in the nick of time by Al Rayyan goalkeeper Ivanildo Rodriguez.

The lurking Lions soon made amends as an alert Osama picked on a corner-kick melee chance to rush for the ball and score much to the delight of his teammates and fans.

Having gained the vital lead, Al Rayyan continued to attack and, midway through the second half, Boli put in the clear outside the box and had only the goalkeeper to beat but kicked straight. Luckily for him, the ball rebounded following the save and the forward quickly moved to get the ball again and slam it into the net.

Al Rayyan kept up the pressure towards the end, but Al Sailiya held on well and ensured no further goals.

Earlier in the opening half, both teams had fair share of their chances, but lacked in finishing.

Mohammed Rajeb had seized an opportunity to put the ball into the net for Al Sailiya, but it was ruled offside.
