Al Khor face Al Shahania in Week 2 of the 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League at the Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday, August 18, 2024. The kick-off is at 6.30pm.

The two sides are looking to achieve their first victory of the league championship in the new season, after they had drawn results in their respective first round matches.

Al Khor held Al Gharafa, third in the league last season, to a goalless draw in the opening round at the Al Bayt Stadium, while Al Shahania also managed to force a goalless draw against Al Arabi at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium of Al Sadd club.

The upcoming match is therefore of great importance to both Al Khor and Al Shahania – the two teams promoted from the Second Division. Scoring a win and gaining the three points will give either of them a strong start to the season and help advance in the standings.

The battle between the two coaches of these two teams on the sidelines will be strong as The Knights are under Qatari Abdullah Mubarak, in whom the Al Khor management renewed its confidence after he guided the team to promotion into Ooredoo Stars League, and Al Shahania under Spaniard Alvaro Mejia, who continues in his role having guided them into the league from the Second Division following victory over Al Markhiya in Play-Off.

Al Shahania rely on many distinguished names in the line-up, such as goalkeeper Bautista Burke who excelled under the bar against Al Arabi and most importantly saved a penalty kick from Yousef Msakni to ensure a valuable draw for his side. They are also served by Dutch defender Sven van Beek, who has come from Dutch club Heerenveen, along with compatriot and striker Pelle van Amersfoort, who also performed admirably against Al Arabi and threatened rival goalkeeper Jassim Al Hail quite often.

The Al Khor coach would be counting on the brilliance of Iraqi striker Ayman Hussein to rattle the net of Burke and score the team’s first win of the season, besides Ivorian Yohan Boli, who also shone in the previous game, Ruben Semedo, Adil Rhaili and Algerian star Sofiane Hanni – the captain and one of the most important players of The Knights.
