Al Wakrah face Al Ahli in Week 1 of the 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League at the Al Janoub Stadium on Sunday, August 11, 2024. The kick-off is at 6.30pm.
Each team will seek to win to gain a strong start to the season, especially since both had strengthened their ranks in advance and have played many friendly matches during their preparatory camps.
Both Al Wakrah and Al Ahli also have the required players in all departments to get positive results given their possession of the best players, whether local or foreign professionals.
Al Wakrah had one of their best seasons in 2023-2024, finishing the league in fourth place with 38 points, and winning Qatar Cup 2024, for the first time, which gives them great confidence to build on what they achieved last season, especially since the team has great potential under new coach Spaniard Miguel Angel Ramirez, who will surely strive for an encore of what The Blue Wave achieved the last season.
Al Wakrah have also bolstered their team with the inclusion of player Abdulkarim Hassan in addition to contracting Ricardo Gomez from Al Shamal, Danish defender Alexander Scholz and Tunisian Aissa Laidouni, while Algerian forward Mohamed Benyettou and Australian defender Trent Sainsbury have left the team.
Al Wakrah will surely try hard to continue and achieve the best results, and their new coach will also look to excel during the season’s competitions.
As for Al Ahli, who suffered last season, they are looking forward to getting better results in the new season. They finished 10th with 23 points and are trying to strongly improve their image while returning to their best. They assigned the team’s training task to Croatian coach Igor Biscan this season.
